Have you Ever Felt Like a Zombie Navigating Your Life?

I don’t know how many days I’ve spent away from my desk, facing my computer, work mode on. I haven’t trained in two weeks. During those same weeks, I’ve been eating so so. I call this zombie mode. Usually, I spend my time in one of these two activities: reading or watching TV. I prefer the first one, of course. This time, it wasn’t an exception.

You wake up, stretch the sheets — the lazy way of making the bed — , prepare breakfast, grab your book and lie down on the sofa for the rest of the day. Yes, you might get up from time to time to go to the bathroom and eat. And then, zombie mode. When your eyes are red and the words become blurry, you say, ok, yes, it’s time to sleep.

Around this time of the year, my husband and I try to go on vacations. By midyear, either you go away and recharge your batteries, or you’ll end up overcharged and burned out. However, in pandemic, well, it’s neither one nor the other.

There’s an important thing to consider, though. Even when you want to resume your habits, your work and activities; even when you want to be active and in the best of moods, you can’t force the process. At least, this is what my experience has shown me. Until you touch bottom, you won’t really reemerge from the world of zombies.

For this reason, you can only have patience and accept you won’t always be at the top of your game. Eventually, after you’ve been surrounded by chaos long enough, you’ll feel the need to find order again. Your mind will be ready to tackle all those chores and tasks you postponed. You’ll go back to order and cleanliness — literal and metaphorical.

It can be overwhelming to deal with everything your chaos has left behind. This is precisely why you can’t rush the process, your come back. When you are ready, your mind will be at the right place to help you deal with everything, one task at a time. Then, just then, you’ll be back to “normal.”

Have you gone through something like this? Have you had zombie moments? Yes, it’s not very comfortable, but as everything, they pass.
